ARMAÇÃO DE PERA
With a gorgeous expanse of 3 Km of shore-line stretching from Praia dos Pescadores (Fisherman’s Beach) to Salamão beach, Armação de Pêra has a permanent population of 4,000 which is swelled to 70,000 during the summer as one of the main holiday destinations in the Algarve.
Nevertheless, in spite of its thriving tourist trade, Armação has retained much of its Portuguese traditions and away from the beach in the town itself, one can find a good many fish restaurants where food is prepared in time-honoured style over open-air charcoal grills.
Local Armação de Pêra festivals include that of Our Lady of the Navigators, which takes place in August and comprises a spectacular nocturnal sea pageant of brightly decorated and illuminated fishing boats. Not to be missed.
